May 4-10 – Be Kind to Animals Week.

May 9 – Friday

  • American Red Cross Blood Drive.  United Methodist Church, 213 No Oak St. 9:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Recycle Old Computers. 7th Street Building Center. 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. or until too much material is brought in. Accepted: computer, keyboards, mouses, small printers and monitors. Goodnews Computer Recycler, a charitable computer recycling effort by Owen Kopp of Lake City repairs or rebuilds old computers and gives them away to children, senior citizens and charitable organizations. All work is done by volunteers.
  • Open House. 1020 N Prairie Street. 5:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. The Lake City School Board District 813 and Building Trades Class of Lincoln High School invite the public to tour this energy efficient home in the final process of construction by Lincoln High School student.   • Pet Wash. The Stables Pet Wash, North 7th Street. 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Pet owners can wash their animals in an ergonomically designed pet wash facility for a freewill donation to the Humane Society. Free #1 bag of dog treats and photos of your pet will be available to those participating.
  • Wine Samples Available. Port Side Liquor, 211 E Lyon Ave. 651-345-3723.

  • Slow Food Minnesota Farm Event presents a foraging walk and dinner at the farm on Ralph Lentz, 32797 738th Street. 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Guided walking tours will feature edible plants in their natural habitat, a rehabilitated trout stream, a pond and artesian spring, bluffs, managed pasture and a 300-year-old savanna with remains of a pioneer cabin. Larry Gates, forager and retired DNR ecologist, and Lentz will be guides. Bread & fruit served at 1:00 p.m., followed by picnic at 3:00 p.m. Menu: braised boar with nettles, ramps, fresh mushrooms and wild asparagus, fresh lemonade and local wine and beer.   • Tour De Pepin. An exciting new bicycle tour of Lake Pepin. Will include three touring options. 15-mile ride to Wabasha, 32-mile trip to Stockholm, WI, 72-mile lake loop along the MN and WI Great River Roads. All rides originate in Lake City. Riders will have use of the Pearl of the Lake-Lake Pepin Paddleboat to shuttle from Stockholm back to Lake City (32-mile option only).
