Initiatives currently happening in Lake City

 
Downdown Holiday Initiative [pdf] "Adopt a Star" Program
 — A community fund-raiser for Christmas decorations to light up our downtown business district.
 
Downtown Improvement Task Force:
Organized Responsible Person (ORP) Donna Halvorson
  Insofar as possible, implement the MDT's recommendations for the visual and commercial improvement of Lake City's retail and marina district. Assist the city in updating and implementing the Lake City Comprehensive Plan. Develop and utilize city, county, state, and federal resources for ideas, support, and funding in support of this mission.
 
Riverfront Improvements Task Force:
Organized Responsible Person (ORP) Ken Smith
Insofar as possible, implement the MDT's recommendations for the beautification and enhanced recreational utilization of Lake City river front property, for the benefit of Lake City residents and tourists who come here to enjoy our city. Assist the city in updating and implementing the Lake City Comprehensive Plan. Develop and utilize city, county, state, and federal resources for ideas, support, and funding in support of this mission.
 
Housing Task Force:
Organized Responsible Person (ORP) Bruce Carlstrom
Work with existing interested groups to maintian Lake City's existing housing and neighborhoods, and work with the city and city staff to develop workable and attractive housing plans and projects for the future. Assist the city in updating and implementing the Lake City Comprehensive Plan. Develop and utilize city, county, state, and federal resources for ideas, support, and funding in support of this mission.
 
Governmental Relations Task Force:
Organized Responsible Person (ORP) Andru Peters
Assist the above task forces in navigating the necessary bureaucracies to obtain the necessary approvals, permits, and licenses to accomplish their tasks. Provide them with expertise in preparing presentations and applications for their projects, and guide them to the right officials and committees to expedite their work. Assist the city in updating and implementing the Lake City Comprehensive Plan. Develop and utilize city, county, state, and federal resources for ideas, support, and funding in support of this mission.
 
Funding, Fund Raising, Grant Request Writing, and Money Request Task Force:
Organized Responsible Person (ORP) Jon Bremer
Assist the three task forces in finding applicable and adequate sources of funds for their projects. This is to be done without bias or judgment of the merits of the proposed projects by this committee, the only requirements being that preliminary governmental approvals or permits ahve been approved, granted, or reasonably promised, contingent on adequate funding being obtained. Assist the city in updating and implementing the Lake City Comprehensive Plan. Develop and utilize city, county, state, and federal resources for ideas, support, and funding in support of this mission.
 
The Task Forces listed above are starting points, and are subject to revision and renewal by the Task Forces themselves over time as they develop their vision of goals.
 
Citizens for Energy Awareness (CEA) [pdf]
Lake City, MN: On February 26, 2007, the City of Lake City ratified the U.S. Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement. By signing this agreement, Lake City joins 754 communities across the country including neighboring cities such as Rochester, Red Wing, Winona, and St. Paul. Lake City is now committed to making a good faith effort to take action under the U.S Mayors Climate Protection Agreement that meet or exceed Kyoto Protocol targets for reducing global warming pollution.
